1st TRAINING SCHOOL - Harmonizing Aedes Invasive Mosquito (AIM) surveillance across Europe 13-17 Jan 2020
AIM-COST Action (CA 17108) - 1st TRAINING SCHOOL (WG1) Harmonizing Aedes Invasive Mosquito (AIM) surveillance across Europe Mosquito-borne diseases emerging or re-emerging in Europe are a serious cause of concern to human health. CA 17108 AIM-Aedes Invasive Mosquitoesaims at establishing a transboundary network of partners and institutions across Europe and to facilitate co-ordinated multidisciplinary research. It will identify and fill knowledge gaps, optimize and harmonize mosquito surveillance and control approaches and raise awareness on the risks caused by Aedes invasive mosquitoes. The 1st AIM-COST Training School will focus on harmonizing AIM surveillance across Europe with the goal to implement a standardized Pan-European monitoring scheme in summer 2020 and beyond. OBJECTIVE OF THE TRAINING SCHOOL: Provide the theoretical basis and develop the practical skills for the implementation of harmonized AIM surveillance in Europe, with the final goal of a pan-European monitoring effort in following mosquito breeding seasons. SPECIFIC TRAINING TOPICS ADDRESSED: -Bionomics and history of AIMs in Europe and beyond, and health related risks (theoretical) -Needs and requirements for appropriate and useful monitoring/surveillance schemes (theoretical) -AIM entomological sampling approaches (theoretical and applied) -Citizen-Science approaches for AIM monitoring and surveillance (theoretical and applied) -AIM morphological and molecular identification methods (theoretical applied) -Dataset structure database construction and sampling requirements (theoretical and applied) -Data analysis, mapping and modelling (theoretical) -Communication the stakeholders and citizen (theoretical and applied)
