Awareness raising and public engagement for the long-eared hedgehog (Hemiechinus auritus) conservation and study in Cyprus - DPL00056
Project aim: The Hedgehog Initiative aims to create a public awareness and engagement for the long-eared hedgehog (Hemiechinus auritus) in the Akrotiri peninsula in Cyprus. Some of the most prevalent threats to Hedgehogs are road collisions and habitat loss. The project aims to encourage the public to take an active interest in the species in order to address these threats.
Objectives: 1. Run educational workshops to work to highlight the threats that Hedgehogs face in the local environment 2. Run a Hedgehog monitoring scheme where tunnels will be used to record the presence around the local area. 3. Screen for parasite prevalence in road killed and temporarily captured (e.g., hospitalized) individuals to raise awareness around the dangers of parasites and vector borne Diseases
