Aim: The project aims to create informational resources, workshops, and dissemination events to raise public awareness regarding the importance of insects and other arthropods and flagship species’ and present the threats that they face (e.g., habitat loss, invasive alien species). Practical guidance and recommendations will be provided to prevent the spread of invasive alien species and vectors of disease, as well as to promote the survival of beneficial insect species such as pollinators. In addition, overall invertebrate recording will be encouraged to strengthen community engagement in biodiversity related matters in the Sovereign Base Area of Akrotiri.
Goals: This project will fill the gap in lack of educational sources on invertebrate and other flagship species in Akrotiri; flagship species has been adopted as a means of engaging and informing selected audiences about conservation efforts.
